Here is our story:
Hello my name is Damon McGuire, God has called me to start Camp Liberty to reach the Kids, Youth, Singles and Families of
North Texas and beyond. So why me you may ask, I didn't grow up in a Christian home just the opposite. I never attended a
youth camp as a youth and had never been invited to one. So at the age of 40 I decided to attend my first youth camp, on the
first day I broke my ankle and was on crutches the rest of the week. But during that time God decided I needed to slow down
and see what was going on around me. What I noticed was, kids and youth who had a desire to do what was right and in
a place that didn't have all the worldly influences that keeps them occupied on all the wrong things in life. I noticed
young people making decisions about salvation, God's calling, purity, daily devotions, prayer life and list can go on. God
used that time for me to see what he wanted me to do in Texas. After returning back to Texas and taking about 2 months
or so to get my leg back in working order I began to look throughout North Texas to find that
most churches had to send their kids hours away from home, most of the time out of Texas to get to a camp
of any quality. So that where we are today, 5 years later, God grace and perfect timing I am starting down
the path of starting Camp Liberty to open by fall of 2008 with family and single camps and summer youth camps by summer
of 2009.
Heres a little information about who we are:
I'm currently employed at Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream as a Territory Manager for North Texas and manage 75 employees and
run a business that is in excess of 20 million dollars a year. God has blessed me many times over in my job. But like all
thing God has decided to change my direction in life and is allowing me to be used to open and direct Camp Liberty. My 20+
years in management will go a long way in getting the camp off to a great start and with Church giving and Corporate
sponsors I expect the camp to open by Spring or Fall of 2008 and to be debt free. I know that God will be the only reason
the camp will be a success and I praise him for allow me to be a small part of making this camp nothing less than excellent.
I have taught for the last 15 + years in many dept at Worth Baptist Church, mainly in the 5th and 6th grade dept as Dept
head. I also work in the audio/video dept serving there for the last 22 years. God has been so good to me.
Karen is a secretary at Worth Baptist Church and has served in that capacity for the last 22+ years. She also teaches
the girls 5th and 6th grade class, work in the AWANA program, Junior Choir Director for last 15 years. Karen also
is one of the main Soloist that sings during Church services. Karen and I just celebrated our 25th wedding aniversary
this past July and we are looking forward to the next 25 years. God has blessed us with two children Cory and Megan.
Cory is a Junior at Pensacola Christian College where he is studing to be a Youth Minister and is minoring
in music. Cory has served as the Choralier Leader for his alumini, Prayer Leader in his dorm, served in the orchestra
playing the violin for the musical his sophomore year, currently singing with Spirit Singers 3rd year running, and is
in two other choirs. He was the Sunday School Music Leader his sophomore year. When Cory is at his home
church he provides support to the Youth dept, sings in Adult Choir, Soloist, plays in church orchestra, and is involved with
the Singles dept. Past achievements, Cory was selected as 2004 Big Brother of the Year amounst all of the High School boys
in Arlington. He was also selected to sing the only solo at his High School graduation for more that 700 graduating
peers and 5000 family members at Nokia Center in Grand Prairie Texas.
Megan is now a freshman at Arlington High, she is involved in Choir, Show Choir, Orchestra, honor classes and I
can go on. She is involved in Church Youth Choir, Orchestra, helps in childrens church and goes soul winning. She won
3rd place in talant show singing a solo in 7th grade. She has been called to be an Evangelist wife and
will serve God where ever God leads her.
As you can tell Church and music has played and still plays an important part in our lifes. We intend to use what God
has been training us for to open Camp Liberty and make it exciting, God honoring, Bible teaching and life changing for
all those who attend our many camps.
Our needs are so many but with many helping it will make the work light. We are seeking to find families and
friends who have the same interest in getting kids and teens saved and provide training to them to serve God in
a bigger way! We are asking that families pray about sponsoring our camp at $20 a month, I will be adding paypal in the next
few weeks so it can be done online, but until then please send check payable to Camp Liberty. Your money will be used 100%
to get the camp up in running and to get camps started as quickly as possible to win the lost and encourage
the believer in a closer walk with God. Please pray about what you can do.
May all that we do bring Glory to God!
